impressions from last years meetings:
Different
workshops of the meeting, which were developed in
cooperation with all European partners since autumn 2007
are proposed now. Of course the following project list
is still provisorical, so that especially the young
people, who finally will participate , still have a
change to make own contributions, so that the final
priority list could be discussed during the preparation
meeting beginning of July 09 in Vilnius.
I : ARTIFICIAL WORKSHOPS
BY / I A : prelude training : creative
participation experiments
- to organize different artificial participation
processes to develop the islands project as a “social
sculpture” ( social process )
- to create first exemplary “participation -
situations” / individual part projects
BY / I B: European Islands
In the first common creative workshop all the
associations, woken with the title, will be discussed.
The participants are totally free to develop first
ideas, visions , without direct connection to the task
to design a traffic island in the next steps. Freedom
means, that no one is forced to create an island
situation for a traffic roundabout! But of course the
conventional associations, island = oasis of the quiet
and relaxation with typical tourists and their
attributes could literally be illustrated by putting
such an island in the contrasting situation of
noisy, frequented traffic island in the centre of a
city.

1. Belarus
BY / I C : EUROPEAN SWIMMING ISLAND : As a big contrast to an urban ( traffic ) island
project for Vilnius a project for Belarus, in the nature,
in the silence. Let us build a real European Island,
which expresses mobility as European principle, which
unites young people. That means, a swimming Island for Braslaw, for our lake in Kolesniki.
As we already know, the meeting place of KAJA East is located at a big lake,
in the middle of the nature park , let us use only
materials given by nature. 1:1 project !
The island should be constructed by united round logs ,
symbolizing an European platform, on which the different
participants can install their artificial contributions
to give the whole island a common European Identity ,
whatever it could be : Islands of hope…, of….. It`s
just an experiment !
If there are long term chances for realization in
Belarus, another project could be realized in the
Swislotsch river / center of Minsk or in "Minsk
More" . So first ideas/outlines and models could be
developed.
BY / I D :
" E 30 " ( provisorical title / final name will be given by the
Bylorussian participants ) . This is the second project (
outlines/models ) for Belarus and it should be realized as a part of the
concept, to unite the cities of Europe , which are united by the
European highway E 30 ( Amsterdam, Berlin, Warsaw, Minsk and Moscow. To
find a place is easy : some Km before Minsk you are forced to turn left
or right to continue to Moscow. .So , when you go straigt on, soon you
will have a roundabout situation in Minsk, ...could be our place. Here
we could unite signs and symbols of youth cultures from the cities
united by the E 30
2. Lithuania

Braslaw and finally
be presented in Vilnius
BY / I E 1 : EU ISL BY / ( Braslaw-Kolesniki) :
prefabrication of a participation – framework
work -process : With respect to the final installation
in Vilnius, a first 1:1 model should be created. So
different design elements, which should be joined at the
end, will be prepared.

invite other groups to join the EU ISL project. Idea:
“belly stores” ( see below: description of

Poland
BY / I F : “ESPERANTO ISLAND” from the
polish promoter for a project to be realized in summer
2010 :
Bialystok has always been a
multicultural city with migrants :
Belorussians, Jews, Lithuanians, Germans, Russians,
Ukrainians, Romanies, Muslims, Tatars lived together
with Poles.
It is this melting pot character of the place that was
one of the reasons for Ludwik Zamenhof beginning his
work on creating the universal world language -
Esperanto. So “Esperanto” could be a method to remix a
new artificial language by using word elements from many
languages. Because they have their origin in Western (
German /English/Latin) and Eastern European Slavic
languages, we should detect key words ,which express our
language, our thinking, our points of view and build a
sculpture using these REMIX – material. But maybe we
crate own , new Esperanto language to be translated into
a visible sign of “diversity, that unites us“

proposal from the polish promoter :
Culture as cream on the top of economics ? It is on the
agenda of participants from Poland to discover European
islands in Bialystok and Podlasie with different
meanings, so that the future Technology and Science Park
in Bialystok will be identified as an “ European
money Island” , because this “big size” future project
will be supported by the European Union. Then we will
ask, how to connect our little David - projects with the
big Goliath projects. Here the participants should get
the chance to contact the project management and offer
to participate : Why not : an European Island –
sculpture in the public space of the Park ?
4.
Russia
BY / I H : RosijEUland”
: we want invite
the teams to create a project for Moscow, at the end of
the EU 30 : As we have contacts to the EDAS children –
and youth architecture studio, we will involve them to
create a common typical Russian – contructivistic
framework by inspiring experimental architecture
game. A diversity of basic elements could be combined in
different ways and lead to many alternative
participations forms.
These we will present in the beginning of the workshop
,so that the participants become children too by
creating another participation forms . The final
decision will be made by the participants themselves ,
depending from the question : which project will offer
most open spaces for connections with individual design
elements, which could transfer artificial answers
concerning the relation EU – Russia .
I I media workshops
BY / I I 2 .: "national / regional presentations "
One-day prelude - workshop in the camp: participants
will not come with empty hands! The documentation
material for the representation of the own country / own
European region with emphasis on youth culture and art,
collected in the preparation period, is arranged to a
collage for a presentation board 1 meter of x 1 meter.
In the second evening of the meeting in Kolesniki the
boards serve for the visualization of the group
presentations. The short 10 minutes presentations are
to be extended on the occasion of the "national
evenings". Regionally - typical meals, songs, dances,
ironic performances regarding the customs of the
homeland will be on the program. The boards will
also be presented in Vilnius
BY / I I 3 : already started in Minsk, we may continue:
to "see" -- me-you-you-me-me-you-you. artistic
get-to-know-each-other-play for the first meeting
days. partners chosen by ticket methods sit opposite
themselves and communicate on two ways, verbal and
averbal: analogous, on the paper, with the pencil. The
partners are asked to fill the background with further
outlines or text arcades to what the partner has
transmitted to them verbally. This material serves
for the remix and can become merged with photos and
videos later.

Analogous camp-diary book, elaborated with pencil and
watercolor paintings: individual impressions to the
history, landscape, nature and environment and to the
meeting of the participants with country and people.
