project discussion in Münster - with politiciens ( left) and teachers of Technical School, which will implement the project ( right/right : the author Paulius Navikas ) |

F You’ll find it… Just follow the light… The inhabitants of Münster own 500.000 bicycles, 1% of them = 5.000 are stolen each year. If your bike is stolen... ``You’ll find it… Just follow the light…” is a public sculpture that is dedicated for the cyclists whose bikes were stolen. With this sculpture I want to have an ironical look at the bike steeling problem in Germany and to express a little senseless hope of the cyclists to find their stolen bikes. A bike on a traffic light looks like an ironical joke. “If you can’t find your bicycle then follow the light… Maybe you’ll find it on a street light.” If your bike is stolen than there is only a hope left to sit and drive on your bicycle which is on the street light- in the list of stolen bikes. This sculpture should stand in Munster. In the German city where is the highest number of bike robberies. The sculpture should be made of metal pipes using metal cutting, flexing, welding and painting technologies. Its height should be the same like a real streetlight. The bikes on it should be made of the same material but it should be designed differently. This is how realization of this project could involve people from different countries, local schools, youth organisations and individual persons who want to put a hand on this project. Participants should make their own design of the bicycles and to paint them differently. This would be a way to become a part of the concept of this sculpture- to show, that a German bike robberies problem involves everyone and to show that there are some people who care about it.
The project won a concours in Münster and will be realized in the city district Gievenbeck. After the meeting European Islands II the author Paulius Navikas will start to elaborate the final plans and KAJA West e.V. is ready to cooperate with the schools and youth centres in Münster- Gievebeck, who will share the participation project : one bike from each partner !
